Enhancing Net Zero Diplomacy: Key Insights from the Workshop and Their Impact on Business Sustainability in Oman
Muscat: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals, through the Oman Net Zero Centre, has organized an introductory workshop designed for officials from the Foreign Ministry and overseas diplomatic missions. This initiative aims to enhance understanding of Oman’s net-zero agenda and to promote international cooperation and investment in low-carbon sectors.
The workshop outlined the mandate and responsibilities of the Oman Net Zero Centre, emphasizing its role in supporting the nation’s goals for emissions reduction. Participants received briefings on the various aspects of the net-zero concept at national, regional, and international levels, with an emphasis on improving collaboration among government entities engaged in climate and sustainability efforts.
A primary goal of the workshop was to equip diplomatic missions with the knowledge necessary to position Oman as an attractive destination for investments in clean energy and low-carbon technologies. The sessions highlighted priority investment opportunities within these sectors, reinforcing Oman’s participation in global climate action initiatives.
Mohsin al Jabri, Director General of the Oman Net Zero Centre, remarked that the workshop is part of broader efforts to create a unified understanding among Foreign Ministry staff and diplomatic missions regarding Oman’s priorities in achieving net-zero emissions. He emphasized the need for closer cooperation between national institutions and diplomatic bodies to deliver a clear and consistent message in both regional and international forums.
He further stated that increasing awareness of Oman’s targets, policies, and key net-zero projects among diplomatic missions is crucial for attracting high-quality investments in low-carbon technologies. Such efforts, he noted, will enhance international partnerships, improve the competitiveness of the national economy, and align Oman with global energy transition initiatives.
The workshop also included discussions on creating effective coordination mechanisms between the Oman Net Zero Centre and the Foreign Ministry. Participants highlighted the importance of standardizing diplomatic messaging on net-zero and improving institutional readiness to engage with environmental and climate issues internationally.
This initiative is part of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals’ comprehensive strategy to enhance government collaboration and advance national programs aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, in accordance with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
