AI’s Rise in Oman: Unlocking New Growth Opportunities for Investors and Entrepreneurs

Muscat, January 12 – Oman’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector has garnered over RO 65 million in investments, making it one of the fastest-growing areas within the digital economy. Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, shared this information during a media briefing on January 12, 2026.

Al Maawali highlighted several key initiatives that are shaping Oman’s AI landscape, including the Oman Digital Triangle Initiative. This initiative aims to create three digitally interconnected zones that will serve as a regional hub for cloud computing and AI, bolstered by green data centers, advanced submarine cable connectivity, and a regulatory framework designed to foster innovation and entrepreneurship.

“The Oman Digital Triangle Initiative is intended to establish Oman as a regional center for cloud computing and artificial intelligence,” said Al Maawali.

He also introduced the Green AI Alliance, described as a pioneering effort in the region that unites government bodies, private sector enterprises, and academic institutions focused on data centers, AI, and energy. The goal is to promote environmentally sustainable AI development.

Additionally, the Ministry announced plans for a dedicated AI zone aimed at attracting institutions and startups specializing in AI from Oman, the Middle East, and Africa. “This zone will facilitate investment, the localization of advanced technologies, and the creation of high-quality specialized jobs for Omanis,” the Minister added.

The briefing also unveiled the AI Studio, an innovation platform designed to connect experts with government agencies, businesses, and educational institutions. “The AI Studio will operate as a collaborative space to develop practical AI solutions, offering advisory services, training programs, and workshops,” Al Maawali stated.

Furthermore, the Minister announced the launch of Mueen, an AI model specifically designed to capture Omani linguistic and cultural traits. Currently in use by government entities, there are plans to broaden its application across various sectors. As of 2025, Oman has seen 46 AI-focused companies, reflecting a 38% growth in AI startups between 2024 and May 2025.
