Amazon’s $35 Billion Investment in India by 2030: What It Means for Global Investors and Local Entrepreneurs
Amazon, the e-commerce giant, announced on Wednesday its plans to nearly double its investment in India, aiming to enhance exports, generate jobs, and invest in artificial intelligence in the world’s most populous country.
The South Asian nation, which is the fifth-largest economy globally, has attracted significant investments from various multinational corporations this year. It is projected to have more than 900 million internet users by the end of the year.
According to Amazon, the company intends to invest over $35 billion across its operations in India by 2030, building on nearly $40 billion already invested in the country. In a statement, Amazon emphasized that this investment will focus on business expansion along with three essential strategic areas: AI-driven digitization, export enhancement, and job creation.
The company has made substantial investments in both physical and digital infrastructure, encompassing transportation networks, data centers, digital payment systems, and technology development.
The statement highlighted that this investment is expected to create one million jobs, increase cumulative exports to $80 billion, and provide AI benefits to 15 million small businesses.
"We’re excited to continue being a catalyst for India’s growth," said Amit Agarwal, a senior Amazon official, during the announcement made in New Delhi.
