APSR Reduces Residential Power Tariffs This Summer: How Will Lower Costs Benefit Your Business in Oman?
MUSCAT: The Public Services Regulatory Authority (APSR) has announced temporary reductions in residential electricity tariffs to help alleviate the impact of increased consumption during the summer months. These measures, effective from May to August 2026, are designed to assist households facing peak demand due to elevated temperatures.
Under the new tariff structure, a 15% discount will be available in May for consumption levels between 0 and 4,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh). A 10% discount applies to usage between 4,001 and 6,000 kWh, while a 5% discount is available for consumption exceeding 6,000 kWh. These discounts will increase during the summer months, reaching 20% in June, 15% in July, and 10% in August, across the same usage bands.
Additionally, the authority has mandated that licensed electricity companies refrain from disconnecting services during this period. They are also encouraged to offer flexible payment options for customers with outstanding balances, allowing for installment payments.
These initiatives aim to alleviate financial burdens on consumers while ensuring uninterrupted service. The regulator emphasized the importance of compliance from licensed providers to ensure accurate billing and monitoring of consumption. — ONA

The temporary reduction in residential electricity tariffs by APSR signals a supportive move for households, creating an environment where businesses can benefit from increased consumer spending. However, companies should be mindful of the risks associated with potential increased demand for services, which may strain resources.
