Hutchison Ports Sohar Partners for E-Truck Deployment: A Game-Changer for Oman’s Logistics Sector

MUSCAT, NOV 30 – Hutchison Ports Sohar, Oman’s premier gateway port, has entered into a significant partnership with Westwell, a leader in scenario-based new energy autonomous driving. This collaboration will see the deployment of 15 advanced Electric Container Trucks (E-Trucks) at SOHAR Port and Freezone, marking a pivotal advancement toward smarter and greener port operations.

The E-Truck initiative is part of Hutchison Ports Sohar’s comprehensive sustainability plan, aligning with Oman Vision 2040 and the Sultanate’s Net-Zero 2050 Target. As the first project of its kind across all terminals in Oman, these E-Trucks underscore the company’s dedication to fostering the Sultanate’s development and investing in a sustainable future.

To improve operational efficiency and promote green port practices, Hutchison Ports Sohar will introduce the 15 E-Trucks from Westwell. Each truck is powered by a cutting-edge 282kWh battery, providing a range of up to 150 kilometers. These E-Trucks support fast charging and fully automated 5-minute battery swaps, allowing for uninterrupted 24/7 operations.

In contrast to traditional diesel trucks, the E-Trucks offer zero emissions and reduced noise levels, enhancing safety and comfort through intelligent driving assistance systems and ergonomic interior designs. They also support progressive upgrades from Level 2 to Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities. Westwell’s E-Trucks have already proven effective in countries such as Thailand, Peru, Pakistan, and Egypt.

Anacin Kum, CEO of Hutchison Ports Sohar, stated, “We are pleased to partner with Westwell to introduce E-Trucks to SOHAR Port and Freezone. This initiative not only boosts terminal efficiency and aligns with our green development objectives but also represents our commitment to sustainable innovation. We are proud to contribute to a cleaner, smarter future for ports and logistics in the region.”

Vincent Zhang, President of Westwell, remarked, “We are honored to collaborate with Hutchison Ports Sohar in bringing our green and intelligent E-Trucks to the Middle East. Westwell will continue to innovate to help global ports achieve more efficient, low-carbon logistics and advance sustainability in the industry.”

This partnership not only signifies a significant milestone in Westwell’s expansion into the Middle East but also reinforces SOHAR Port and Freezone’s status as a leading logistics hub. Looking ahead, Westwell is committed to supporting the port’s transition toward greener and smarter operations, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable global supply chain.
