Khazaen Dry Port Joins CMA CGM’s Global Network: Implications for Trade and Investment Opportunities in Oman

MUSCAT: Khazaen Dry Port, a critical facility under the Asyad Group, has officially joined the global container terminal network of CMA CGM, a leading player in the shipping industry.

This strategic partnership designates Khazaen as an approved container terminal within CMA CGM’s international framework, significantly enhancing its connections with global shipping lines. This advancement offers Omani importers and exporters improved access to efficient and flexible global logistics solutions.

The port has already started receiving container shipments through this new network, with goods arriving via SOHAR Port and Freezone, serving as a transit hub. With its advanced infrastructure and operational capabilities, Khazaen has demonstrated its readiness to effectively manage international freight flows by completing clearance and handling procedures on-site.

Khazaen Dry Port provides a variety of value-added services that benefit both local and international trade. These services include generous free storage periods—up to 14 days for loaded containers and 21 days for empty ones—as well as specialized services for refrigerated containers, which include electrical hook-ups and pre-operation inspections.

Additionally, the port is equipped with food and agricultural inspection facilities, allowing for quicker entry of goods into domestic markets and enhancing overall supply chain efficiency.

This milestone stems from a strategic collaboration between Asyad Ports and Free Zones and the CMA CGM Group. It was made possible by a streamlined customs corridor developed in partnership with the Directorate General of Customs of the Royal Oman Police. This new corridor enables container transport using a “shipping agent seal,” eliminating the need for traditional customs closures. Moreover, it allows for a “written financial undertaking” in lieu of a bank guarantee, thus reducing costs for logistics operators and encouraging direct connectivity.

Saad Bait Naseeb, CEO of Khazaen Dry Port, remarked that the port’s integration into CMA CGM’s global network underscores its commitment to positioning Oman as a competitive logistics hub in the region. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the broader objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on economic diversification and smart infrastructure development to enhance the Sultanate of Oman’s role in global supply chains.

“This step supports Khazaen’s vision of operational excellence, regulatory innovation, and sustainable logistics solutions,” Bait Naseeb stated, reaffirming the Asyad Group’s commitment to building a globally interconnected and efficient logistics ecosystem. — ONA
