Nama Dhofar’s Rural Electrification: How Connecting to the Main Grid Supports Oman’s Net Zero Goals for Businesses
SALALAH: Nama Dhofar Services has successfully awarded all tenders to connect rural areas powered by diesel generation plants to the main electricity grid in Dhofar Governorate. This initiative is a significant milestone in Oman’s pursuit of its Net Zero 2050 target.
Chief Operations Officer Imad Said Ausanajali announced that this initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at phasing out diesel-powered generation and reducing carbon emissions. The projects are designed to enhance service reliability and ensure a safe, sustainable power supply for local communities.
“This milestone represents a major step in our commitment to minimizing carbon emissions, improving reliability and service quality, and ensuring access to sustainable energy,” Ausanajali stated.
By transitioning rural energy supply to the national grid, the company is furthering its sustainability objectives while decreasing dependence on expensive diesel fuel. This initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which emphasizes cleaner energy and long-term environmental responsibility.
For decades, Dhofar has relied on small-scale diesel power stations to meet the energy needs of remote areas. Connecting these communities to the main grid will not only reduce emissions but also provide a more stable electricity supply, promoting local development.
