Oman Airports’ Expansion Initiative: How It Enhances Business Opportunities in the Aviation Logistics Hub

MUSCAT: Oman Airports has secured a new lease agreement to establish a specialized facility for aircraft tire and brake repairs at Muscat International Airport. This initiative aligns with its strategic vision to transform airport land into a dynamic economic and logistics hub.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed bin Said al Amri, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, and Hussein bin Abdullah al Haddad, Chairman of the Board of Directors of United Summit Business Company. The new facility will be built on a 7,274-square-meter site within the second phase of the Air Cargo Gateway – Logistics Area and involves an estimated investment of RO 5 million.

Mach Aerospace International is set to operate the facility, which will provide inspection, repair, and rehabilitation services for the wheels and brakes of Airbus A320 and Boeing 787 aircraft, adhering to global technical and operational standards. This workshop is anticipated to enhance operational efficiency and safety at the airport.

Al Amri stated that this agreement signifies the commencement of Oman Airports’ newly launched investment strategy for land development around Muscat International Airport. "We have developed an integrated master plan to fully leverage the area’s potential through quality projects aligned with our long-term vision," he remarked.

He added that the initiative aims to improve the airport’s commercial profile by expanding hospitality, entertainment, and service offerings, thereby increasing the land’s investment value and boosting returns from both joint and direct ventures. "This agreement is part of a broader strategy to transform airport lands into vibrant economic and logistics platforms, supporting Oman’s economic diversification and establishing the Sultanate of Oman as a key regional aviation and services hub," Al Amri noted.

Al Haddad described the agreement as a significant milestone in public-private partnership efforts aimed at unlocking the investment potential of Muscat International Airport City. "This facility addresses the growing demand for technical support due to the increase in passenger and flight numbers. Its establishment within the airport will help minimize turnaround delays during technical emergencies,” he added. — ONA
