Oman Digital Triangle Agreement: What It Means for Investment Opportunities in the Country’s Tech Sector

MUSCAT, SEPTEMBER 8 – The Sultanate of Oman has officially entered into an agreement with the International Data Center Authority (IDCA) aimed at advancing its digital economy and establishing the Oman Digital Triangle, a strategic initiative designed to enhance connectivity and innovation.

This agreement follows extensive discussions involving key governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Ministry of Economy.

Under the terms of this landmark agreement, IDCA will develop and implement the National Digital Infrastructure Roadmap, establish National Digital Infrastructure Standards, and introduce National Digital Infrastructure Education. The Oman Digital Triangle (ODT) will be the world’s first initiative of its kind, featuring three interconnected digital hubs and AI super-clusters. These hubs will facilitate GW-scale data center capabilities, essential connectivity, and a skilled workforce tailored primarily for AI data centers, leveraging the nation’s geographical diversity and resilience to meet the demands of AI cloud providers.

Eng. Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, remarked, “Through this partnership with IDCA, Oman is well-equipped to address the growing global demand for AI and data center solutions in a robust and dynamic manner. We invite leading AI, data center, and cloud providers worldwide to engage in what will be the largest AI digital hub project globally.”

Dr. Ali bin Amer al Shaithani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized that Oman’s collaboration with IDCA showcases their confidence in the organization’s expertise. “The launch of the Oman Digital Triangle positions Oman as a pioneer—not only regionally but globally—aligning strategy, policy, and knowledge to build a cutting-edge digital ecosystem. We welcome all builders and operators to contribute to this groundbreaking initiative.”

The Chairman and CEO of IDCA stated, “Data flourishes in an environment characterized by trust and stability. Oman, often viewed as the Switzerland of the Middle East, is positioned to harness decades of national stability to expedite its digital economy. With a varied landscape and a talented workforce, this partnership allows us to leverage our expertise to establish a digital ecosystem that sets global benchmarks.”

Buddy Rizer, Chief Digital Hub Development Officer at IDCA, shared insights from his 18 years of experience developing the world’s largest digital hub in Loudoun County, Virginia. “Bringing my experience to Oman to establish three national digital hubs and what will be a pioneering initiative for AI super-clusters offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of global data center cities.”

The agreement between Oman and IDCA is expected to catalyze the growth of AI data centers and enhance the nation’s electrical and connectivity infrastructure to accommodate future demands.

This strategic partnership between the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MoTCIT) and IDCA is anticipated to introduce the most advanced AI, digital economy, data center, and cloud practices across the nation, presenting unparalleled opportunities for investors, builders, and operators.
