Empowering a Green Workforce: Sohar Programme’s Impact on Youth Skills in Clean Energy for Oman’s Future Economy

SOHAR Port and Freezone has introduced a Sustainability and Renewable Energy Programme in partnership with the Youth Centre, designed to equip young Omanis with essential skills for the global energy transition.
This month-long initiative will provide training for over 50 participants aged 25 to 34, including graduates, professionals, jobseekers, and entrepreneurs. The focus will be on enhancing capabilities within the clean energy sector. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience through workshops, scenario-based learning, and real-world case studies.
In alignment with Oman Vision 2040, the programme encompasses topics such as renewable energy fundamentals, green hydrogen applications, energy storage, value chains, integration strategies, efficiency measures, carbon markets, carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS), fuel cells, and sustainable mobility. Participants will learn to evaluate energy systems from technical, environmental, and economic perspectives, while deepening their understanding of carbon management and innovation in scalable clean energy solutions.
Said al Balushi, Administration and Government Relations Manager at SOHAR Port and Freezone, stated that this initiative is a strategic investment in national capabilities to facilitate the energy transition. He emphasized that offering practical experience in renewable energy and carbon management will enhance the talent pipeline for sustainable industries and promote economic diversification.
Moreover, the programme supports SOHAR’s commitments to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards as well as corporate social responsibility (CSR) by fostering environmental awareness, community development, and youth engagement.
