Sustainability Ambassadors Initiative at Yiti School: Key Insights for Businesses Committed to Environmental Responsibility in Oman

The inaugural edition of the "Sustainability Ambassadors" initiative wrapped up at Safana bint Hatim Al Tai School in Muscat over the weekend. Launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group), The Sustainable City – Yiti, and Carbon 6, and supported by the Marriott Business Council, this initiative aims to instill the principles of sustainability in the younger generation.
Over several weeks, the program offered a series of interactive workshops and practical learning experiences focused on cultivating sustainable habits and raising environmental awareness among students. Participants engaged in school-based projects that addressed recycling, waste reduction, and responsible consumption of water and energy, all in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
Dr. Ali bin Salim Al Shukaili, Director General of the Directorate of Education in Muscat Governorate, emphasized the initiative’s success as a testament to the collaborative efforts of national institutions in fostering environmentally responsible generations. He stated, “Experiential learning has proven essential in nurturing students who understand sustainability not only in theory, but as a mindset and lifestyle.”
Mohammed al Rasbi, Social Investment Lead at OMRAN Group, remarked, “Investing in people is at the core of true social impact. Through this initiative, we aimed to empower students with the values and behaviors that foster a sustainability-minded community. This program reinforces our commitment to cultivating positive environmental attitudes in youth and building resilient communities.”
Mahmoud Shehada, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at The Sustainable City – Yiti, noted the importance of their involvement in promoting sustainability from a young age. He observed, “The students showed remarkable creativity in transforming their knowledge into impactful environmental initiatives that benefited both their school and the broader community.”
Abeer Ali, Founder of Carbon 6 and program facilitator, shared insights on the hands-on approach taken during the initiative. “We designed and delivered the program to help students practically apply sustainability concepts. Witnessing their mindset gradually shift week by week, as sustainable thinking became an integral part of their daily routines, was truly inspiring.”
