Nama Water Expands Treated Water Reuse Drive: What This Means for Sustainable Business Growth in Oman
MUSCAT: Nama Water Services is advancing the reuse of treated water as part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen water security and promote the green economy. This initiative focuses on maximising the economic value of every cubic metre of treated water through its Manhal Nama programme.
The company explained that this approach marks a transition from traditional resource management towards value-based water management. This shift enhances operational efficiency and environmental sustainability, aligning with the goals of Oman Vision 2040. Efforts are concentrated on optimising the use of treated water across various sectors.
Eng Issam bin Munir al Ismaili, Chief Officer of Digital and Commercial Services, stated that Manhal Nama has become a vital element of the water economy. It supports sectors in managing demand more efficiently and cost-effectively. He emphasised that treated water is no longer viewed merely as a service, but as a practical solution that delivers efficiency, sustainability, and ease of use.
Nama Water Services employs advanced treatment technologies to improve water quality and operational performance. This ensures safe reuse of treated water in agriculture, industry, and landscaping irrigation, complying with both national and international standards. These measures also reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable resource management.
Data at the end of 2025 shows a 36 percent increase in the number of Manhal Nama beneficiaries compared to 2024, reflecting growing demand and rising confidence in treated water solutions. This trend highlights a broader movement towards more efficient and sustainable water consumption.
The company is also developing flexible operational models that tailor water quality to specific usage needs, enabling customers to maximise efficiency and economic benefits. It continues to encourage the adoption of treated water as a reliable alternative resource.
As part of its expansion plan, Nama Water Services is investing in treatment networks and infrastructure while implementing automated monitoring systems to improve service quality and operational efficiency.
Notable projects include a treated water distribution scheme in Al Shakhakhit, Wilayat of Barka, currently serving about 60 farms, with over 100 new connection requests pending. Additionally, a strategic pipeline in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, linking the wilayats of Nizwa and Manah over more than 12 kilometres, is expected to be commissioned soon, enhancing access to sustainable water resources.
Nama Water Services highlighted the numerous benefits of treated water usage, such as reducing dependence on freshwater, conserving natural reserves, lowering operational costs, and improving allocation efficiency. The company continues to promote Manhal Nama’s wider adoption, emphasising its critical role in building a more efficient and sustainable water system that supports Oman’s long-term development.
