Summer Travel Disruptions Amid Regional Tensions: What Investors and Business Owners in Oman Need to Know
Muscat: Amid rising regional tensions, numerous holidaymakers have been compelled to change or cancel their travel arrangements.
Iran, a favored destination for both medical and leisure tourism—especially its cooler northern areas during summer—has experienced a notable shift in tourist activity. Many travellers who spent the Eid holidays in Iran are now urgently seeking alternative routes to return home, predominantly by road or sea.
Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Oman’s Foreign Minister, emphasized that the Sultanate is working tirelessly around the clock to assist Omani citizens wishing to return safely. He highlighted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has established direct contact numbers in Muscat and Tehran, organized by citizens’ locations. Furthermore, communication can be maintained through the Ministry’s official mobile app and other digital platforms.
The Ministry has urged all Omani nationals currently in Shiraz and nearby areas to gather at designated assembly points in Shiraz and Bandar Abbas. These specified locations aim to ensure the safe and orderly repatriation of citizens to Oman.
Additionally, Oman Air has announced the cancellation of its flights to Amman, Jordan.

Escalating regional tensions and travel disruptions related to Iran highlight significant risks for Oman’s tourism and travel sectors, particularly in logistics and repatriation services. However, this situation opens strategic opportunities for businesses involved in alternative travel routes, evacuation assistance, and digital communication platforms facilitating consular support.
