Oman’s Treasury Bill Issuances Hit RO 39.5 Million: What Investors and Businesses Need to Know
MUSCAT: The Central Bank of Oman reported that the total value of government treasury bills issued this week surpassed RO 39.5 million, underscoring ongoing activity in the Sultanate’s short-term debt market.
This week’s issuances included RO 15 million in 28-day bills, which had an average accepted price of RO 99.721 per RO 100, with the minimum accepted price slightly lower at RO 99.720. The average discount rate for these bills was 3.64131%, while the average yield reached 3.65151%.
Additionally, 91-day treasury bills amounted to RO 13.5 million, with an average accepted price of RO 99.056 and a minimum price of RO 99.050. These bills recorded an average discount rate of 3.78816% and an average yield of 3.82428%.
Meanwhile, 182-day bills totaling RO 11 million were issued, with an average accepted price of RO 89.074 and a minimum of RO 89.065 per RO 100. The average discount rate for this tranche stood at 3.86240%, with a corresponding average yield of 3.93825%.
The Central Bank also highlighted that the repo rate applicable to these treasury bills is 4.25%, while the discount rate on treasury bill facilities is set at 4.75%.
Treasury bills are short-term, government-backed securities issued by the Ministry of Finance and managed by the Central Bank of Oman. They offer licensed commercial banks a secure investment option while assisting in liquidity management through discounting and repurchase agreements.
