Enhancing Export Readiness: What Omani Firms Need to Know to Boost Their Global Business Opportunities
MUSCAT, JUNE 9 — The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), through its arm “Oman Exports,” launched a training workshop today titled “Enhancing the Export Performance of Omani Institutions.” The event is conducted in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC).
The workshop brings together 30 participants representing over 25 Omani exporting companies. It forms part of ongoing initiatives to bolster the international competitiveness of medium and large enterprises in Oman, enabling them to meet the increasing demands of global value chains.
Spanning three days, the workshop aims to equip Omani businesses with key concepts and tools essential for improving their competitiveness in international markets. Participants will also be introduced to ITC’s methodologies and programs focused on advancing export performance and enhancing institutional efficiency.
This workshop serves as a preliminary stage toward launching a comprehensive, specialised technical programme. This upcoming initiative, developed following extensive preparatory activities and field studies by ITC experts in collaboration with local stakeholders, is tailored to address the specific needs and operational contexts of Omani institutions. It seeks to overcome challenges while leveraging opportunities to strengthen Omani presence in global markets.
The sectors targeted by this initiative include food and beverage manufacturing, plastics and rubber products, chemical industries, metals and metal products, pharmaceuticals, as well as traditional Omani products such as frankincense, dates, electrical conductors, iron and steel products, and agricultural goods.
Lubna bint Mohammed al Harthy, Director of the Export Development Department at MoCIIP, outlined that the training programme is structured around three essential pillars to enhance the export capabilities and global competitiveness of Omani enterprises. These pillars focus on:
- Enhancing export readiness via strategic planning and market assessment.
- Improving product packaging to increase competitiveness, ensure compliance, and reduce waste.
- Promoting continuous improvement by optimizing internal operations, addressing challenges related to costs, logistics, compliance, and cash flow, and adopting modern approaches to sustainability and performance enhancement.
This initiative reflects Oman’s commitment to strengthening its export sector and integrating its institutions more effectively into the global economy.
