OPES and OSW 2026: Accelerating Oman’s Integrated Energy Transition and Unlocking New Business Opportunities
Under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Oman Sustainability Week (OSW) and the Oman Petroleum and Energy Show (OPES) are set to take place from May 18 to 20, 2026, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat.
Hosted by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and organised by CONNECT, these events highlight the Sultanate of Oman’s rapid progress towards an integrated energy transition. This transition strategically combines sustainability goals with the continued development of the traditional energy sector.
Bringing together the entire energy ecosystem, the events provide a comprehensive platform for major oil and gas companies, clean energy innovators, technology providers, and policy-makers to collaboratively shape the next stage of the energy transition. This phase is characterised not by a division between conventional and clean energy but by their integration into a balanced, unified system.
Oman Sustainability Week serves as a high-level forum covering a broad spectrum of sectors influencing the future of energy, including renewable energy, green hydrogen, water management, waste and environmental services, technology, sustainable transport, sustainable finance, and logistics. The event’s integrated approach mirrors the extensive transformation underway across Oman’s economy. With strong engagement from leading companies, experts, and speakers, OSW continues to strengthen its role as a hub for knowledge exchange, strategic dialogue, and the showcasing of innovative solutions driving sustainable development.
Dr Ali al Rajhi, Director General of Planning at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of the OSW Steering Committee, described the event as a “platform for decisions,” stressing the need to move beyond commitments to implementation. He noted that the high level of participation by leaders, experts, and investors reflects the seriousness of Oman’s transformation efforts and their alignment with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
Simultaneously, the Oman Petroleum and Energy Show focuses on enhancing the hydrocarbons sector’s competitiveness through innovation and advanced technologies. Key themes include carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), digital transformation, and low-emission operations, all supporting the sector’s sustained relevance in a lower-carbon energy future.
Dr Saleh al Anboori, Director General of Oil and Gas Exploration and Production at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of the OPES Organising Committee, described this edition as a pivotal milestone. He emphasised that OPES’ alignment with Oman Sustainability Week underscores the integration of energy pathways, noting that no single energy source can meet global demand. Instead, conventional and clean energy now operate as parts of a unified system enabling a comprehensive sector transition.
Mohammed al Aghbari, External Affairs, Government Relations & Communications Manager at PDO, stated: “As the energy landscape evolves, platforms such as Oman Sustainability Week and Oman Petroleum & Energy Show are crucial for advancing a unified vision for the sector’s future. As the host organisation, we are proud to lead this dialogue—leveraging our expertise to foster competitive and responsible hydrocarbon growth that maximises value for Oman and supports the nation’s broader sustainability ambitions.”

Oman’s integrated approach to energy transition, highlighted by the concurrent Oman Sustainability Week and Petroleum and Energy Show, signals a strategic blending of conventional and clean energy sectors. This creates a significant opportunity for businesses and investors to engage in innovation, particularly in carbon capture, green hydrogen, and digital transformation, positioning Oman as a competitive hub for sustainable energy development. Smart investors and entrepreneurs should focus on technologies and partnerships that support this balanced, forward-looking energy ecosystem aligned with Oman Vision 2040, capitalizing on the momentum towards implementation beyond commitments.
