Wakan Village Surpasses 27,000 Visitors: What This Means for Oman’s Tourism Investment Opportunities
Wakan Village in Wadi Mistal, located in the Wilayat of Nakhal within South Al Batinah Governorate, welcomed 27,428 visitors from January to July 2025. This marks an increase from the 24,093 visitors recorded during the same period in 2024, according to official statistics.
Dr. Al-Mu’tasim Nasser Al-Hilali, Director of Heritage and Tourism for South Al Batinah Governorate, highlighted that the village’s diverse attractions have solidified its reputation as a sustainable, year-round tourist destination. He pointed out that tourism reaches its peak during the summer months, driven by the village’s mild climate and seasonal fruit harvests. These harvests commence with apricots in June, followed by peaches, figs, and pomegranates in July, and conclude with three local grape varieties—Al-Maqdmani, Al-Malasi, and sour grapes—in August.
The recent inauguration of “View Wakan” café, the village’s third café, has further contributed to the rise in visitor numbers, particularly on weekends and official holidays.
Wakan offers unique experiences such as mountain lodging at its guesthouse and hiking along ancient agricultural and mountain trails, which have gained popularity among international adventure tourists. Additionally, the village is home to several historical sites, including an ancient mosque, traditional neighborhoods, and agricultural terraces that date back several centuries.

For businesses, this trend opens opportunities in hospitality, adventure tourism, and local artisanal products, while smart investors should consider expanding eco-friendly accommodations and leisure services to meet increasing demand. Entrepreneurs can capitalize on the village’s rich heritage by developing cultural tours and value-added experiences that attract both domestic and international tourists.
