Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, has unveiled a cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence Asphalt Paving Technology. This initiative is part of the Sultan Said bin Taimur Road Dualization Project – Part 4, located in Dhofar Governorate. The introduction of this technology underscores Galfar’s commitment to integrating modern innovations into infrastructure projects, while also showcasing Oman’s progress in embracing the artificial intelligence revolution.
The launch event, entitled “Artificial Intelligence Asphalt Paving Technology,” was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri, the Economic Advisor at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs. It marks a pivotal advancement in the construction sector, enabling greater precision, improved equipment coordination, and reduced manual intervention in operational areas. This technology enhances the quality, efficiency, and sustainability of government projects, including road developments.
H.E. Dr. Said Al Saqri remarked, “The launch of Artificial Intelligence Asphalt Paving Technology is a significant milestone in advancing the road sector in Oman and automating construction processes. This aligns with national goals to implement contemporary technologies in infrastructure, thereby achieving multiple economic objectives. Such innovations elevate execution standards, enhance project efficiency, and improve worksite safety, in accordance with Oman Vision 2040.”
He further stated, “Road projects are critical not just for geographic connectivity but also for fostering economic growth, facilitating the movement of goods and people, empowering local communities, and boosting national competitiveness. Integrating smart technologies into these projects represents an investment in a more efficient and sustainable future.”
Reflecting the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to innovation, H.E. Eng. Khamis Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Transport, noted, “We are currently testing various advanced technologies, a journey that commenced years ago. Today’s launch could be a significant step toward adopting autonomous tools and equipment. Additionally, we are implementing technologies such as smart recycling and renewable energy in this project.”
The Sultan Said bin Taimur Road Dualization Project – Part 4 is a crucial national initiative aimed at strengthening infrastructure to support development and enhance connectivity across governorates. Project assessments indicate that it serves not only as a strategic road framework but also as a platform for generating local employment and involving Omani enterprises in the supply chain.
Dr. Hamoud bin Rashid Al Tobi, CEO of Galfar Engineering & Contracting, commented, “Today, we celebrate not only the launch of modern technology but also the beginning of a new era in road and infrastructure project execution in Oman. In 2025, over 95% of Galfar’s purchase orders were awarded to local suppliers and SMEs, involving more than 1,300 Omani companies and broadening the positive impact of its projects on the domestic economy.
