Digital-First Future Drives Oman Vision 2040: Key Opportunities for Investors and Entrepreneurs
MUSCAT, SEPTEMBER 11 — The pivotal role of digital transformation in achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 was emphasized during the ‘Digital Transformation and Futuristic Infrastructure’ forum held on Wednesday as part of COMEX 2025.
Ali al Lamki, Digital and IT Director at Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), highlighted that the 2040 Vision centers on digital transformation as more than just adopting new technologies. It represents a fundamental overhaul in how industries function, innovate, and deliver value to both individuals and the nation.
“Digital transformation is key to success. It involves not only adopting new technology but completely rewriting how work is done, how ideas are generated, and how value is provided to people, partners, and the country. Aligning with Oman Vision 2040, the Sultanate is committed to a digital-first future that embraces innovation, sustainability, and economic diversification,” al Lamki stated.
In the energy sector and beyond, digitalization is becoming essential rather than optional. The global demand for cleaner, more efficient, and resilient energy necessitates solutions that extend beyond traditional methods. Technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) enable faster decision-making, predictive maintenance, reduced human risk exposure, and real-time operational optimization.
Several initiatives are already shaping this digital age. These include Digital Twins, which create virtual replicas of physical assets for real-time performance monitoring, and Predictive Maintenance systems that use AI to prevent failures, reduce costs, and boost productivity.
Generative AI platforms offer on-demand access to organizational knowledge and benchmarks, while automation and robotics, including drones and intelligent machines, improve security and operational efficiency. Additionally, blockchain solutions provide secure, transparent, and reliable supply chains, reinforcing the foundation of a genuine digital future, al Lamki explained.
These technologies are not merely for incremental improvements but are designed to rebuild industry operations fundamentally. They enable the development of futuristic infrastructure with data-driven decision-making, accelerated processes, and technology as a primary growth driver.
By fully integrating digital transformation, Oman is advancing the goals of Vision 2040—fostering a knowledge-based economy, empowering national capabilities, and positioning the Sultanate as a hub of innovation.
