SALALAH: The 4th Salalah Engineering Forum officially opened yesterday, August 31, under the patronage of Eng. Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
Organized by the Oman Society of Engineers in collaboration with the Ministry, the forum gathered government officials, academics, economists, and specialists in engineering, logistics, and supply chains. It aimed to address challenges and explore innovative solutions within Oman’s engineering and logistics sectors, in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
Key discussions centered on the logistics sector’s role in economic diversification, emphasizing the need for integrating engineering and innovation to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen Oman’s competitiveness on both regional and global scales. Development plans for ports, airports, and free zones were also prominently featured.
Eng. Fouad al Kindi, Chairman of the Oman Society of Engineers, stressed the importance of the forum in showcasing engineering’s contribution to logistics and economic diversification. He noted Salalah’s strategic location along global shipping routes and highlighted the necessity of investing in infrastructure and local talent in accordance with Oman Vision 2040.
Speakers from academia, government, and the private sector underscored the importance of partnerships in fostering the development of Omani professionals, empowering youth, and leveraging modern technologies to enhance logistics efficiency.
The forum presented 18 technical papers that addressed topics such as resilient logistics networks, sustainable practices, workforce planning, skills development, infrastructure improvement, and supply chain optimization.
The first day concluded with a panel discussion titled "Perspectives in Logistics Engineering," moderated by Dr. Mansour al Qasmi, featuring participants from Oman, Bahrain, and the United States who discussed future challenges and regional cooperation opportunities.
