Port of Duqm Joins Oman Net Zero Centre’s Meezan Platform: What This Means for Sustainable Business Growth in Oman
Port of Duqm Company has signed the Meezan Subscription Agreement with the Oman Net Zero Centre, operating under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, becoming the first non-hydrocarbon entity in Oman to formalize such a partnership.
This significant step underscores the company’s dedication to adopting sustainable and responsible operational practices, aligned with the Sultanate’s Net Zero 2050 goals and long-term strategic priorities.
The Meezan platform is Oman’s first integrated national system designed to accurately calculate, monitor, report, and verify greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative highlights Oman’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The platform employs methodologies developed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), adhering to internationally recognized standards and best practices. Additionally, it holds ISO 14064-3 certification, verifying compliance with IPCC methodologies.
This collaboration is part of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals’ ongoing efforts, through the Oman Net Zero Centre, to accelerate decarbonization and the transition to net zero emissions. The initiative aims to boost national and international cooperation on emissions reduction, enhance data quality and transparency, improve decarbonization planning efficiency, and support informed decision-making aligned with Oman’s net zero objectives.
Under this agreement, Port of Duqm Company has begun utilizing the Meezan platform to track, manage, and disclose carbon emissions and decarbonization initiatives in line with national goals.
Reggy Vermeulen, CEO of Port of Duqm Company, commented on the agreement: “This partnership marks a pivotal milestone in our sustainability journey. By collaborating with the Oman Net Zero Centre and adopting the Meezan platform, we will strengthen our capacity to measure, manage, and continuously enhance our environmental performance. We reaffirm our commitment to actively supporting Oman’s Net Zero 2050 ambitions and setting new standards for sustainability within the non-oil and gas sectors.”
Through this engagement, Port of Duqm Company aims to reinforce its position as a sustainability leader in the non-oil and gas sectors, contribute meaningfully to national decarbonization efforts, and bolster stakeholder confidence in its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments. This sets a precedent for future sustainability initiatives across the region.
