Oman-Thailand Joint Tourism Initiatives: What Investors and Business Owners Need to Know
BANGKOK: The Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Thailand have initiated discussions to enhance cooperation in the tourism sector, focusing on joint promotion, destination management, and the development of integrated visitor experiences.
The talks took place during an official visit by Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism, who met with Thapani Kiatphaipol, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and facilitating the exchange of expertise in tourism promotion and development strategies.
During the visit, the Omani delegation was briefed on Thailand’s success in building a globally competitive tourism industry, particularly its ability to attract international markets through a high-value tourism model. Thailand’s effective use of digital technologies and its commitment to embedding sustainability in tourism activities were highlighted as key areas of interest for Oman.
Both parties emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders, including travel and tourism companies, to unlock new opportunities for growth. Discussions also explored sustainable tourism practices, community-based initiatives, and mechanisms for managing and recovering from tourism-related disruptions.
The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to fostering practical partnerships that boost the global visibility of their destinations while enhancing the quality and competitiveness of their tourism offerings.
This visit is part of a wider outreach effort by Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism aimed at engaging leading global tourism markets and institutions, in alignment with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
On the sidelines, Minister Al Busaidy participated in the World Sustainable Tourism Conference in Phuket, organised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. The conference convened policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to discuss the future of sustainable tourism, focusing on sustainable hospitality, resilience of cities and tourism communities, and managing visitor flows to balance growth with resource conservation.
Al Busaidy also held bilateral meetings with international tourism officials and experts, concentrating on adopting global best practices in destination management, enhancing hotel efficiency, and implementing smart solutions for visitor management.
