Oman’s Boost to GCC Statistical Cooperation: What It Means for Investors and Business Growth in the Region

MUSCAT, APRIL 6
Oman is advancing its leadership in regional data-driven policymaking through a newly signed cooperation agreement between the Statistical Centre of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Arabian Gulf University.
This partnership aims to strengthen collaborative efforts in scientific research, build statistical capacity, and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technical expertise—essential elements for supporting evidence-based decision-making within GCC economies.
Key areas of cooperation include the exchange of research and studies, implementation of specialised training programmes, and the organisation of joint scientific conferences and workshops. Additionally, the programme facilitates technical and advisory visits to enhance institutional coordination and share best practices.
A joint committee will be established to oversee the agreement’s implementation and develop an actionable plan to ensure effective execution and measurable results. This structured approach will support the creation of an integrated Gulf statistical system.
The initiative aligns with the GCC’s strategic plan for joint statistical work (2026–2030), which focuses on building a smart, reliable statistical ecosystem, fostering academic partnerships, and cultivating a qualified workforce skilled in data science and advanced analytics.
For Oman, this collaboration bolsters ongoing efforts to enhance institutional capacity and improve the application of data in economic policymaking. As the Sultanate progresses its diversification goals under Oman Vision 2040, access to accurate and timely data is increasingly vital for effective planning and investment decisions.
Moreover, the partnership reflects the GCC Statistical Centre’s broader strategy to expand cooperation with academic and research institutions, bridging the gap between statistical data production and practical policy applications.
With growing demand for high-quality data across the region, this initiative is expected to improve policy efficiency and contribute to sustainable development outcomes in Oman and the wider GCC.
