Investors Invited to Prequalify for RO Membrane Manufacturing Project: Key Opportunities for Business Growth in Oman
Muscat, June 8 – Nama Water Services has announced an invitation for interested investors to pre-qualify for participation in a competitive process aimed at awarding a mandate to establish a high-value industrial project focused on manufacturing Reverse Osmosis (RO) membranes in Oman.
This initiative arises from recommendations made during the National Local Content Lab, supported by the Oman Investment Authority, to promote the localisation of business opportunities. It aligns with the government’s broader strategy to bolster domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on imports.
The development of local RO membrane manufacturing is a strategically significant advancement for Oman’s water sector. It will enhance the resilience and sustainability of the desalination industry, which is crucial for supplying potable water in one of the world’s most water-stressed regions. Oman relies extensively on seawater desalination to support its growing population, industries, and economic projects. As the key component of modern desalination plants, RO membranes critically affect operational efficiency, energy use, and water production costs.
Local production of these membranes would diminish dependence on imports and complex global supply chains, improve supply security, shorten procurement lead times, and potentially generate long-term cost savings. Additionally, it will help develop a domestic water technology ecosystem that encourages research, innovation, skilled employment, and industrial diversification in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Nama Water Services, the integrated utility managing water and wastewater services across much of Oman—including production, transmission, distribution of potable water, and wastewater collection, treatment, and reuse—is overseeing this project.
The deadline for qualification submissions is July 2, 2026.

The move to establish a local manufacturing facility for Reverse Osmosis membranes signals a strategic shift towards reducing Oman’s reliance on imports and global supply chains in the critical water sector. For businesses, this presents opportunities to engage in a growing domestic ecosystem focused on water technology, innovation, and skilled jobs, while investors should consider the substantial long-term benefits of enhanced supply security and cost efficiencies aligned with Oman Vision 2040. Smart entrepreneurs should monitor this evolving sector closely and explore partnerships to capitalize on government-backed industrial diversification initiatives.
