Nama PWP Opens Qualification Round for Oman's First Waste-to-Energy Plant

Nama Power and Water Procurement has started the request-for-qualification stage for a 95 to 100 MW waste-to-energy plant in Barka, due to run from 2031.

Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP), Oman's exclusive power buyer, has started the request-for-qualification (RFQ) stage for the country's first utility-scale waste-to-energy plant. The plant will be built in Barka.

The project is projected at 95 to 100 MW. It would convert municipal solid waste into baseload electricity through thermal conversion, producing about 760 GWh a year from 2031. Commercial operation is scheduled for the second quarter of 2031.

Companies that want to take part must submit a statement of qualification. PWP is developing the project with Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be'ah), and the Authority for Public Services Regulation nominated PWP to lead it.

The reports do not state the estimated cost or the qualification deadline. Because the first step is qualification, the plant is not yet at tender or award stage.
