Oman Hosts GCC Energy Standards Meetings: What It Means for Regional Business and Investment Opportunities
MUSCAT: Oman is currently hosting meetings of three Gulf technical committees responsible for developing standards in the electricity, electronics, and renewable energy sectors. This initiative aims to enhance regional technical cooperation and support the Gulf states’ transition to cleaner energy.
The meetings, running until July 2, include representatives from GCC countries and Yemen, along with specialists from government bodies, electricity companies, and the private sector.
Attendees are reviewing draft standards outlined in the Gulf Standards Plan 2026, focusing on product safety, energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, and equipment for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
Dr. Jihad bint Jabr al Busaidi, Director of the Standards Department at Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, emphasized that Oman’s role as host underscores the confidence of GCC member states and highlights the Sultanate’s commitment to advancing Gulf standardisation efforts.
She noted that Oman is leading the development of 77 unified Gulf standards, with approximately 85% already completed. Additionally, Omani experts are providing technical reviews for over 225 other draft Gulf standards.
Officials stated that these unified standards will enhance product quality, promote innovation, facilitate regional trade, and bolster investment in renewable energy. These efforts align with Oman Vision 2040 and support the GCC’s broader objectives for economic integration. — ONA
