Oman Builds Green Talent Base: How It Can Boost Your Business for a Net-Zero Future
MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman has made a significant stride toward its net-zero objectives with the launch of the National Energy Efficiency Programme (Kafa’a). This pioneering initiative aims to certify Omani professionals as energy auditors in accordance with international standards.
Developed by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), the programme aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and global climate commitments, including the Paris Agreement.
Over six weeks, the program will train 50 participants, who will work towards obtaining the prestigious Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) accreditation from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). The curriculum includes classroom instruction, hands-on projects at SQU facilities, and field audits, ensuring that participants gain both theoretical and practical skills.
Eng. Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, referred to the initiative as “a strategic investment in national human capital.” He emphasized the crucial role that certified auditors will play in enhancing energy efficiency across government and industry sectors.
“Each participant will emerge as a qualified energy efficiency expert capable of reducing costs, emissions, and energy waste,” he stated. “This initiative strengthens Oman’s transition towards a low-carbon economy.”
The programme also highlights strong institutional collaboration, with SQU’s Sustainable Energy Research Centre overseeing the training design and logistics, while government ministries provide policy and financial support.
Engineer Mohsen bin Sulaiman al Jabri, Director General of the Oman Centre for Net Zero, underscored that “Kafa’a” is a fundamental element of Oman’s strategy to develop domestic capacity for sustainability.
“This initiative confirms Oman’s leadership in sustainable development, empowering local talent to facilitate the transition toward a green economy,” he noted. “It is through their skills and dedication that we will achieve our vision of net-zero by 2050.” — ONA
