Muscat Governorate Launches Largest Glamping Hub: What It Means for Investors and Tourism Entrepreneurs in Oman
Muscat Governorate, through Muscat Municipality, has awarded a tender for the development of an integrated Glamping Hub at Hawiyat Najm in Wilayat Qurayyat. This project, the largest and first of its kind in Oman and the region, will cover an area of half a million square meters.
The Hawiyat Najm Development Project will introduce Oman’s premier glamping destination, featuring expanded green spaces, outdoor activity zones, walking paths, and various public facilities for visitors. Key components include a dedicated Glamping and Caravans Area, a park, smart informational signage, an exhibition hall showcasing local family products, and recreational facilities for children. The site will also have designated cycling and walking paths, sports activity areas, and sustainable infrastructure such as solar panels for renewable energy, water recycling and desalination systems, and waste recycling mechanisms.
Located just 120 kilometers from Muscat International Airport, Hawiyat Najm has long been a popular stopover for travelers heading to the renowned destinations of Wilayat Sur and other parts of Al Sharqiyah South Governorate. The area, currently maintained by the municipality, offers arid landscapes, basic facilities including toilets and a children’s playground, and free entry for visitors.
Muscat Municipality has introduced a licensing system for camping within the city, positioning Hawiyat Najm as the new focal point for RVs and campers. The project’s design draws inspiration from the site’s natural arid environment and emphasizes sustainability, service availability, and the needs of the local community.
Once completed, the glamping hub will accommodate up to 144 visitors daily and is projected to create approximately 300 jobs for the local population. This initiative promises to blend eco-friendly tourism with community empowerment in a uniquely Omani setting.
