مسقط: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have apprehended a group of Arab women engaged in a series of burglaries across several homes in the Muscat Governorate. These individuals disguised their criminal activities by posing as beggars.
According to the ROP, the women executed their crimes during the day, targeting homes by simply opening doors without any signs of vandalism or violence.
Through effective surveillance and tracking operations, the ROP uncovered this unusual criminal methodology. The thieves stole jewelry and valuables valued at over OMR 20,000, often using keys that victims had unwittingly left outside their doors.
The gang focused on homeowners who casually concealed spare keys under doormats or inside shoes. This seemingly innocent practice created an opportunity for the suspects, whose appearances did not raise any suspicions.
"People often keep keys for family members in easily accessible spots, thinking they’ll only be gone for a short time. The suspects took advantage of this situation," explained an ROP spokesman.
Advice: The practice of leaving spare keys under doormats, rugs, or in potted plants is common for granting access to family, neighbors, or cleaners. However, police strongly advise against it. While it provides convenience, this habit poses a significant security risk, as these locations are typically the first places burglars check.
